How to Write a Thank You Note after a Job Interview
Most job seekers know that you must send a follow-up email thanking the recruiter or hiring manager for their time after your job interview, but do you know what kind of follow-up emails get results?
Here are quick tips to get the recipient to respond, and hopefully decide to consider your candidacy for the position:
1. Refrain from using “Follow-Up Regarding Job #…” as your subject line. This will immediately go to trash. It is very impersonal and as if you have not met the person you are writing this letter to. Try “Thanks for your time, Joanna” or “Looking forward to learning more about Company ABC”. We all like seeing our names. When we see an email with our name, your instinct is to open and read. Same is true when we see the name of the company we work for because we have a strong connection to it.
2. Don’t just thank them. This is your chance to offer more information about yourself, your experience and most especially your achievements that perhaps you were not able to discuss during the meeting.
3. Remind them about a discussion you had during the meeting that highlights your fit to the position. Retention is a product of repetition. If it is worth highlighting, repeat it so it sticks.
4. Reinforce your interest in joining the company.
5. Ask about the next steps and offer your availability for it.
Make this chance to connect with the interviewer/s again by following these steps on How to Write a Thank You Note after a Job Interview. You can never go wrong by being polite and grateful. This should be the tone of your letter.
