Job Interview Training

Do you really need job interview training?

This is a good question to ask yourself if you have gone to one too many interviews and still have not landed a job.  There is no clear cut timeline in finding a job especially in Vancouver.  Some take as little as 4 weeks and they are already in a position they love.  While others take up to 4 months or even 6 months considering all the steps involved in finalizing a new hire.  At any rate, when do you actually know that it is high time you seek the help of an expert to do Job Interview Training with?

You are getting the calls.  That’s a good sign.  That means your resume is good enough to actually merit a phone screening interview.  But are you getting invited for face to face meetings?  Job interviews do not only mean the personal meeting with the HR or hiring manager.  It starts from the call that you get saying they are interested in your resume and would like to know more about you.  Most recruiters would like to save time.  They start assessing your qualifications on the phone and decide from there if they want to see you in person.  So that phone call my dear, is very crucial!

Let It Go To Voicemail

Voicemail is your friend during these times.  If you are on the job search mode, do not just pick up the phone wherever you are.  If you suspect that this is a call from a potential employer, let the call go to voicemail. This is especially true when you are in a noisy environment, driving around, have kids in the room or just not ready for a professional conversation.  Let these calls go to voicemail.  Listen to the message.  Review the job posting for this position.  Prepare yourself for a nice, quiet chat and call them back as soon as you can.  If you do well in the phone screen, you will get invited for a face to face meeting.

Job Interview Training (Tips & Tricks)

Here are a few tips you can refer to in order to ace that Face to Face Job Interview

  1. Please make sure you know your resume by heart. There is nothing more disappointing for a recruiter or hiring manager than interviewing a candidate who mixes up the dates of previous employment or does not remember what happened when.  This says a lot about the authenticity of your resume as well as your credibility.
  2. Review the job posting.  Make sure you understand the position requirements very clearly. When discussing your skills, refer back to the qualifications required for the position.  This helps prove your fit to the role.
  3. Prepare for a behavioral interview. Past behavior predicts future behavior.  Tell your interviewer about great things you have done in the past to prove that when hired, you will perform in the same manner as you had done before.
