Job Search During The Pandemic

The whole world is practically on lockdown, and as a job seeker you are wondering how it is like to conduct a job search during the pandemic.  Are there even companies hiring?  My first thought was to also put a pause on all my recruiting, resume writing and interview coaching efforts.  I thought that things will dramatically slow down and my clients, both the employers and the job seekers will not be up for anything because they would all be somehow affected by this pandemic.

I could not have been more wrong though.  Today, a connection of mine on Linkedin just posted a compilation of companies that are actively hiring in Vancouver alone.  I personally am working on a few very important positions for my clients who are in industries considered essential to daily life.  I am doing my part in speeding up the process for them.  It’s the least I can do during this time.

People are hopeful and now, so am I!  I have to admit that I was worried for a minute there but I have to give credit to Canadians, we are fighters!  We will rise above this!  We just need to be patient now and do our part as responsible citizens.  While we are doing that, there are actually things job seekers can do to be productive.

Actual job search during the pandemic may not be the best thing, but you can definitely prepare yourself for when the market is again ready to hire for your industry.  Try the following –

  1. Update your resume.
  2. Improve your LinkedIn profile.
  3. Read a book. Learn new skills. Take free courses online.
  4. Build your network.
  5. Do mock job interviews with your friends or family members. It will be a fun activity!
  6. Connect or reconnect with people on social media and be participative in a positive way.
  7. Try to get some work out or physical activity done. I do ZUMBA personally. I love it!
  8. BE POSITIVE! Know that things are going to be ALRIGHT, in HIS Time.

For now, let us #StayHome and do the above as your effort to conduct job search during the pandemic continues.
